What Is Inflammation?
What is inflammation? For most people, inflammation has a negative connotation. When a wound is red, warm, swollen, and even painful, we know that inflammation is involved. We take medication to control or even eliminate inflammation. Inflammation is associated with illnesses and disorders like tonsillitis and appendicitis. In fact, many conditions that end with the suffix “itis” involve information in one form or another, including arthritis, dermatitis, and pancreatitis. With common phraseology like this, it is little wonder that most people continue to believe that inflammation is negative, harmful, and to be avoided at all costs.
However, this is not the only type of inflammation that occurs within the human body. Subliminal inflammation is an ongoing bodily process that provides protection and repairs damage – usually, damage that we don’t even know we have sustained.
In fact, even the inflammation that most people are aware of – inflammation characterized by a red, warm, swollen, painful wound – is not as harmful as we have been led to believe. In fact, the truth is quite the opposite. Inflammation is not a sign of a wound or disease but is rather clear evidence that your body’s natural repairing and healing processes are activated.
Proteolytic Enzymes Hard at Work
Your body is a natural defense system and its ability to use inflammation as a means of repairing and healing would not be possible without proteolytic enzymes. Let’s take an example of a painfully ingrown toenail. You may first be alerted to this problem when a colorless fluid oozes from the wound. While this fluid – commonly known as pus – may appear to be a symptom of the injury, it has healing properties. Pus is created when foreign bodies such as bacteria are present within the body and is excreted to push the foreign matter out of the body and to create a temporary clot over the wound.
Your ingrown toenail will start to swell and the area will become red. The swelling is caused by the body’s deliberate attempts to introduce fluid into the area, while the redness is a clear sign that increased blood flow is being directed to the wound. This additional blood flow can cause the familiar warm feeling in the area.
If these initial attempts at localized healing are ineffective, the additional heat in your toe can spread and become a more global body fever. As with inflammation, fever is often erroneously associated as being a part of a disease or illness, rather than an attempt to cure. Increased body temperatures cause proteolytic enzymes to become more active, particularly at bodily temperatures of around 40 degrees Celsius or 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures higher than this do become a cause for concern, as enzymes cannot exist at higher temperatures.
Even localized pain has its purpose in the body’s attempts at healing a wound or injury. Pain receptors cause a stimulus to be sent to the nerve center of the brain, where it is experienced as a painful sensation. Pain is an important element of bodily healing, as it alerts the brain that there is a potentially harmful situation that must be addressed.
In the case of a foreign object in the body, such as a splinter in your hand or an ingrown toenail, it is your body’s naturally occurring proteolytic enzymes that isolate and then push the foreign object to the surface of the body. Doing so is an enormously complicated procedure, involving delicate balances between liquefication and coagulation of blood, and shrinkage and swelling of the localized area. It is this process that can push a foreign object to the surface of the body, making it easier for us to step in and remove it ourselves.
When no foreign object is present, the inflammation process is all about healing and regeneration of cells, nerve fibers, and lymph and blood vessels. Once the wound is completely healed and new healthy tissue is firmly in place, protective scabs naturally fall away.
When Your Body’s Enzymes Aren’t Enough
It is sometimes the case that what would be a one-off case of inflammation turns into chronic inflammation, where the process repeats over and again. When this occurs, it is usually because the body does not have a sufficient supply of proteolytic enzymes – out body’s ever-willing helpers – to fully complete the process of healing and repair. When this occurs, the body will trigger a secondary set of information, producing a whole-body fever. Since we know that proteolytic enzymes become more active at higher temperatures, this whole-body fever aims to kickstart the enzyme reactions in the body, particularly where the initial round of enzyme activity was insufficient to bring about the proper level of inflammation required to heal the affected area.
All inflammatory responses in the body are dependent on the body producing a sufficient level of proteolytic enzymes. When the body is unable to produce a normal level of enzymes, or where the damage or wound is of such a large extent that even a normally functioning body would not be able to produce the level of enzymes required to facilitate complete healing, problems can occur. This can cause disastrous results, including conditions commonly known as auto aggression or autoimmunity, in which the body fails to recognize normal body tissues and begins fighting against them as if they were foreign objects.
Proteolytic Enzyme Treatment
It may be argued that enzymes are effective anti-inflammatory supplements and could not possibly be used to encourage normal levels of inflammation within the body. However, to properly understand the role of proteolytic enzyme treatment regarding inflammation, it is helpful to think of enzyme formulations as inflammation activators rather than anti-inflammatory medications. Indeed, inflammatory enzyme preparations do not aim to inhibit inflammation, but rather work on repair, regulation, and activation of inflammation in appropriate ways to heal and repair damage to the body. The best proteolytic enzyme supplements accelerate the inflammation process, allowing wounds to heal without additional damage caused to the local area or felt in the body as a whole.
Indeed, proteolytic enzyme inflammatory preparations, while speeding up the repair and the construction of new tissues to the affected area, can cause the most common symptoms of inflammation to come on faster and stronger. This means that the area may appear more swollen, more reddened, warmer, and you may even feel higher levels of pain. However, remember that these indicators of inflammation are not – as is commonly believed – indicators of a disease or wound, but are your body employing its natural healing and repairing processes to bring the affected area back to a state of natural health. Therefore, the speedy onset of swelling, reddening, warmth, and even pain are not a cause for concern, but a series of helpful indicators to show that your body is busy repairing itself.
Proteolytic enzyme supplementation is required when your body is struggling to produce a level of enzymes needed to undertake effective inflammation processes to heal and repair various parts of the body. As we now know, when a person does not produce the required level of enzymes naturally within the body, the body will ultimately struggle to use inflammation in its natural way to heal the body. A proteolytic enzyme formulation can be the perfect solution to restore your body’s natural levels of healthy enzymes which allow your body to use inflammation processes in the way nature intended. It is an unfortunate truth that, as our bodies age, it becomes harder for our bodies to produce the level of proteolytic enzymes required to ensure normal inflammation processes.
The benefits of systemic enzymes cannot be understated. If your body is struggling to produce the level of proteolytic enzymes needed, the solution can be as simple as regularly taking an enzyme supplement hybrid formula.
